Experiment 01 [Tension]

Image referenced from 'personal-space analysis of Robert Sommer’s Personal Space The Behavioral Basis of Design'.

This experiment explores the personal space of the users in the airport. Human behavioral use of space changes as the condition/environment change. As crowding occurs, the violation of personal space increases tension levels.

Violation of personal space due to crowding.

Using grasshopper to translate this movement into 3d forms, I've decided to create a primary line that by using a number slider ranging from 0 to 1, would change the straight line to rougher randomized curves as number(tension) increases. The extruded form is generated by an additional curve/rectangle/pipe linking via 'sweep1' to envelop the primary tension line.

Gradient of tensions = As the violation of personal space increases tension levels, the roughness of form increases.

Model 01.

Model 02. (using a different curve to generate the form)

  1. Interesting development of form. Would be good to see the physical models of these.
